Artistic gymnastics is one of the most complex and physically demanding
sports, requiring athletes to simultaneously utilize a wide range of motor skills
and physiological systems. Epidemiological studies indicate that this sport has
among the highest injury rates for both youth and elite athletes. The annual
injury incidence ranges from 1.5 to 9.2 per 1,000 training hours, depending on
training intensity and age group, with higher rates reported particularly in
female and adolescent gymnasts (Caine & Nassar, 2005; Thomas, 2018).
Injuries resulting from overuse account for approximately 60–70% of reported
cases and most commonly affect the wrist, ankle, and lower back regions
(Meeusen & Borms, 1992; Fong et al., 2007).
