Landscape Urbanism is a planning and design theory and a model of practice that argues that the best way to organize cities is through the design of the city's landscape rather than just the design of built or unbuilt areas. In this context, it is positioned within larger-scale cultural, historical and theoretical formations. Landscape Urbanism is a response to the limited perception or depiction of the current project and site context by both Urban Planners and Architects and Landscape Architects. It is also a concept that has been strategically introduced by these design and planning-oriented professions and jobs, especially in terms of Urban Design, as a way to differentiate the context and is used more in a Western-oriented way, and has been put forward as a response to the increasingly undefined role that Landscape Architects find themselves in.Landscape Urbanism describes the ability to produce urban effects that have traditionally been achieved through the construction of buildings on built-up areas, simply through the organization of horizontal surfaces.
